Monday: The National Zoo

Lunch was at a picnic area overlooking the pandas.
Then we went to see the pandas. The zoo has displays geared towards children to help learn about what they are seeing. It was fun and interactive for the kids.
Isaac was super excited to see the panda!

Here's Grandma with all the grandkids and a real elephant!
The elephant house was closed because they were remodeling. Benjamin was super upset because that's where the hippos live, and for as long as he's been alive, his favorite animal at the zoo is the hippo. At this point, he didn't know that we weren't going to see any hippos. That's why he's smiling.
Madeleine is posing next to a very large, very flat frog.

Because there were no hippos, we went to the reptile house to see some turtles. Benjamin's favorite animal in the world is turtles. So once he found out where we were going, he got way excited. And the turtles did not disappoint! There were tons and tons of turtles, snakes, lizards, and alligators.
We had a great time at the zoo, even though there were no giraffes or hippos.
